Stay Ahead of the Curve and Meet Legal Requirements with Ease

What is ESOS?

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) requires large organisations in the UK to undertake mandatory energy audits every four years with the aim of identifying and reviewing any potential energy efficiency measures that can be implemented to reduce consumption.

We understand that navigating ESOS and complying with its requirements can be a complex and time-consuming process for large organisations in the UK. Our team of lead assessors are here to help you with the mandatory energy audits required by Phase 3.

Organisations employing more than 250 employees, or with an annual turnover in excess of £44M and an annual balance sheet total in excess of £38M must undertake mandatory energy audits every four years to identify and review any potential energy efficiency measures. The deadline for compliance is 5th June 2024.

We have now entered Phase 3 with a deadline of December 2023.

Who does ESOS apply to?

Your company must comply with ESOS if, on 5 December 2023:

• You are registered or based in the UK or are a UK establishment.
• You have over 250 members of staff, or
• A turnover of more than £44m and an annual balance sheet of over £38
• You are an overseas organisation with over 250 employees in the UK
• Your company is part of a larger organisation, which falls into any of the above

What’s the difference between ESOS and SECR?

ESOS and SECR are both energy-related regulations in the UK, but they have different focuses. The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme requires large companies to conduct energy audits and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency. ESOS focuses on energy use and aims to help companies reduce their energy consumption and save money on energy bills.

SECR stands for Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting. It requires companies to report on their energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency measures annually. SECR focuses on a company’s emissions and aims to encourage companies to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to the UK’s climate change targets.

Simply put, ESOS looks at energy use and ways to improve efficiency, while SECR focuses on emissions and ways to reduce a company’s carbon footprint.
