Certification story

Atelier, provider of custom property finance solutions has achieved the Planet Mark certification. As a responsible lender, every loan it makes balances opportunities and risks, taking into the account the environmental, social and governance impact of the finance it provides.

Building on the company’s existing environmental commitments, Atelier is working with Planet Mark to ensure continuous improvement in environmental policies while engaging its stakeholders in the process. Over the next year, the company will be working towards reducing its carbon emissions and working towards achieving net zero carbon emissions in its operations by 2025.

As the first SME focused development lender to join the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), Atelier is striving to “radically improve the sustainability of the built environment, by transforming the way it is planned, designed, constructed, maintained and operated”.

One way it is echoing their mission is through a pilot sustainable lending programme, incentivising smaller SME developers to reduce emissions of their developments. If successful, by 2030 Atelier will lend solely on Net Zero carbon real estate (end-state). 

By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the company will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.

Through Planet Mark, Atelier has protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth goes directly towards supporting the Asháninka community in Central Peru.

It has also helped the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.

Future targets

Reduce carbon emissions by at least 2.5% each year

To recertify next year Atelier Capital Partners must reduce emissions by 2.5%.

Aim to reduce carbon emissions by 5% each year

A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
