Certification story

City West are a family run and managed organisation. It provides high-quality bespoke cleaning service solutions developed in conjunction with our clients, ensuring their needs are fully understood. Through its approach and commitment, it has built a reputation for cleaning excellence, value and personal care.

City West has furthered its sustainability commitment by becoming Planet Mark certified through measuring and reducing its carbon footprint. In this crucial Decade of Action, the company want to ensure that it is a force for good: positively transforming society and the planet by measuring our own impact on the environment.

Over the next year, City West will continue reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its social responsibility, City West are able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.

Steve Malkin
Founder and CEO
Planet Mark
“Well done to City West Support Services on first year certification to Planet Mark. The steps the company has taken coalesces all of its previous sustainable work into a widely known, easy to communicate programme. City West is ambitious, with a net zero target and all the tools to get there. I look forward to working with their team to help them reach their ambitions.”
Martin Fitch
Managing Director
City West Support Services
“Sustainability & social values are at the heart of City West, so we are delighted to be starting our journey with Planet Mark to help us deliver on our commitments to achieving net zero. In a decade of action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the shifting demands of clients means innovation is key within the cleaning industry. Becoming aware of our supply chains and cleaning supplies is crucial towards reducing our carbon emissions and achieving our objectives.”

Martin added “In partnership with our clients we are working together to mitigate the environmental, social and economic impacts of climate change on future generations. Thus, we are focused on identifying areas of our operation where emissions can be reduced and innovative strategies put into action within all areas of our business.”

City West Support Services has made several commitments to sustainable practice beyond its commitment to continuous improvement in carbon footprint. The organisation has set the challenge of becoming net zero, and will focus on electrifying its fleet, launching low-carbon services, and encouraging the use of public transport.

City West is also able to help customers increase recycling rates and divert waste from landfills, and uses water based cleaning systems to avoid unnecessary chemical waste.

Companies working in facilities services can gain lots through sustainable action. As conduits for clean operations in other businesses and organisations, sustainable facilities management companies can have far-reaching impacts beyond their own operations. But more importantly, as businesses become increasingly aware of supply chain sustainability, facilities management companies will be one of the first suppliers engaged to provide environmental solutions. Being ahead of the game will be vital for securing and retaining customs.
