Certification story

Clear Channel is one of the UK’s leading OOH media owners. As a responsible media company, it’s committed to striking the right balance between delivering effective advertising solutions for global brands and local advertisers, while making a positive contribution through its own partnerships across many communities, and environmental and social projects.

Achieving the Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.

Over the next year, the company will continue reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the company will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.

Steve Malkin
Founder and CEO
Planet Mark
“Clear Channel is already doing fantastic work in the sustainable space. With strong carbon footprint reductions, tree planting pledges and green energy, the company clearly cares about the planet and its impact upon it. Planet Mark certification can enable a step change in Clear Channel’s sustainability programme. The company is dedicated to change, and we are happy to have more sustainable leaders in our community.”

As part of its commitment to biodiversity, Clear Channel’s Living Roof initiative is designed to support native biodiversity, while helping to create healthier local communities and bring greenery into urban areas. Taking it a step further, the company has partnered with The Wildlife Trust to support its mission to help save wildlife in cities through urban greening campaigns.

As part of Creating the Future of Media, Clear Channel continues to reduce its environmental impacts and be more sustainable, not only for the future of its business but for the future of the planet. Each Clear Channel location has an environmental leader and the company has a business wide Environmental Steering Committee on which four of its leadership team sit.

The company has a long history of initiatives, innovation, partnerships and projects that go above and beyond just looking at reducing its environmental impact, spearheaded by its net zero by 2030 goal. The company purchases 100% renewable energy, and 98% of its waste avoids landfills. Since 2020, Clear Channel have joined Ad Net Zero, UN Global Compact and Carbon Disclosure Project.

Going beyond

Through Planet Mark, Clear Channel has protected endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.

It has also helped the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.
