Steve Malkin
Founder and CEO
Planet Mark
“I am delighted to see the progress EllisKnight has made over the past year. EllisKnight has stayed true to its principles and emerged successful in its sustainability targets. The company has a well-rounded approach to environmental responsibility and it is a great pleasure that Planet Mark can be a part of that.”
Patrick Graham
EllisKnight International
“We are absolutely thrilled to now be a Planet Mark certified recruitment business. We are so lucky to have an amazing team who all understand the necessity for us all to do what we can to help the environment and as a result, we hope this makes us a better place to work too. It’s so important to us that we only partner with organisations that share these values.”

Achieving the Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.

Over the next year, the company will be working towards measuring and reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the company will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.

How we respond to this decade will decide the course of human history. Climate change is already one of the most prominent topics of conversation among business leaders, and this will only grow as time goes on. We must all contribute to ensuring our planet is fit for the future, and business has a key role to play in embracing innovative solutions for a low-carbon world.

Going beyond

Through Planet Mark, the company has protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.

It has also helped the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.

EllisKnight International Recruitment has achieved Carbon Neutral status.

Case Study

Sustainability Transparency & Best Newcomer

EllisKnight International amended its business Articles of Association to establish a legal obligation to be a purpose-led organisation and created a Sustainability Report based around 4 core UN Sustainability Development Goals, proudly leading to B Corp certification in 2021.

Supported by Planet Mark they started taking ownership of their carbon footprint which began their journey of action and change:

  • Partnering with ClimateCare allowed them to achieve carbon neutral status in December 2021
  • Planting over 7,000 trees with Ecologi offset the carbon footprint of the team plus every candidate placed in the last year for the first 12 months of their new role
  • Improved data collection around utilities, waste and business travel significantly reduced their carbon footprint with the installation of an electric car charger at their commercial office and ensuring business operations are online and paper free.
  • Measurement of daily impact through website B1G1 widget, created nearly 500,000 global impacts to date, winning them 5 Global stars in recognition of this achievement
  • Giving a Certificate of Appreciation and charitable donations based around the UN Goals on behalf of clients for every candidate placed
  • Arranging birthday donations of tree planting for the team and their families
  • Partnering with Toilet Twinning to hold a monthly free prize draw to win a client’s toilet with a latrine in a developing community

EllisKnight strives to be as creative and diverse as possible when it comes to sharing its sustainability journey within a sector that isn’t traditionally known for its positive impact on the planet and has had some wonderful opportunities to tell its story to a large audience including their staff team to share ideas and inspiration:

A collective voice that has helped reach further and achieve more transforming the business. It has allowed external stakeholders to scrutinise their credentials as a purpose-led business as well as fostering a culture within their own team to always strive for improvement in placing people and the planet first.
