Certification story

McLaren Construction, an award-winning construction company with an established reputation for delivery of outstanding property development, has achieved Planet Mark certification. Achieving Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.

This is McLaren Construction’s second year of business carbon footprint reporting and Planet Mark certification. McLaren Construction’s total carbon footprint in the year ending July 2022 was 4,163.9 tCO2e.

Since certifying to Planet Mark, the company has set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually. Over the next year, it will be working towards reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, McLaren Construction will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.

Steve Malkin
Founder and CEO
Planet Mark
“McLaren Construction Group has made fantastic strides in the second year of Planet Mark certification. The company has rigorous sustainability policies and clear ambitions, and these are reinforced by the fantastic cuts in carbon emissions this year. The company has a lot to celebrate, and this couldn’t be done without the whole team buying into a sustainable ethos.”

As a leading contractor, McLaren is committed to continuous environmental improvement. The company is embedding environmental awareness in all its activities, both on construction sites and in offices, throughout design and procurement practices. McLaren’s planet policy objectives are focused on three key areas of influence: minimising resource consumption, promoting environmentally responsible design and operations, and driving a culture change throughout the built environment.

Companies working in construction have a vital role to play in a sustainable and just transition. Buildings are not only at the centre of much of our carbon emissions when built unsustainably, but they can also contribute to unhealthy and unproductive people. Establishing sustainable principles throughout the supply chain of construction companies can have many positive impacts on people, the planet and profit alike.

Future targets

Reduce carbon emissions by at least 2.5% each year

To recertify next year McLaren must reduce emissions by 2.5%.

Aim to reduce carbon emissions by 5% each year

A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
